The Living Pterosaurs

     How likely is it that living pterosaurs could still be living. Although a stretch, Jonathan Whitcomb an blogger, scientists and writer believes it is highly likely and has devoted the last 15 years of his life studying this phenomenon. He has gone around the world and visited with many people, and gathered much information on living pterosaurs. He carefully examines the evidence and testimonies and has collected thousands of reports of sightings.

     I had the pleasure and privilege to be able to interview him and ask him a few questions. I asked him on many topics revolving this topic. I asked him of course about my own state of Oklahoma, and inquired about whether many sightings came from there. As I enjoy spending time outdoors, I thought it would be interesting if I should keep an eye out for any creatures like these. He said they are frequent and that there was a recent one from St. Louis and they are common in the South.

      Although he hasn't personally sighted one for sure, he has devoted much of his time in researching and writing about it. With hundreds of blogs, articles, reports and several books he is the expert on this area of cryptozoology. I asked him of what made him interested in this subject, and he told me that it was a story he had heard from a South America missionary that heard of native traditions and another missionary in Papau New Guinea.

    Mr. Whitcomb is very careful in examining testimonial evidence. He has a legal video analyst look at the testimonies and all the sightings have similar characteristics.

*Long Neck
*Lack of Feathers
In all 13 years he has never seen a witness confuse a pterodactyl for a fruit bat which is a similar animal that may be confused for a living pterosaur. He has all testimonial evidence, not any physical evidence yet.

     Many people may not be receptive to the idea that some ancient creatures may still be living. If you consider though the holes in Darwin's theory and the evolutionary thought. You can see how the Creation thought makes much more sense, and living dinosaurs make so much more sense.  If you also consider all the possible places where these creatures may hide. They may den in culverts or caves, also migrate during the night making them less prone to being spotted. Even then Mr. Whitcomb believes there are millions of sightings!

As we explore science and the world more, we may find yet undiscovered animals.

10 Historical Proofs that Dinosaurs and Man lived Together

     The dinosaur, a creature that has captivated the minds of millions and keeps on doing so. We see these creatures as a remote being that lived years ago, and is brought to life in science fiction movies such as Jurassic Park. But is there more to them than meets the eye, could there be proof that dinosaurs and man lived together. I believe there is, and here I have listed 10 historical proofs, that may prove that we had lived along these great creatures or maybe we still do!

10. The Anglo Saxon Chronicle and Dragons!

     The Anglo Saxon Chronicle which is a book written in the eight century, could possibly prove that your bedtime fairy tale of a dragon and knight may not be completely false! This was a record that was kept to accurately show what was happening at that time. In fact many people consider it quite reliable. In this document there are numerous records of dragons!

“A.D. 793. This year came dreadful fore-warnings over the land of the Northumbrians, terrifying the people most woefully: these were immense sheets of light rushing through the air, and whirlwinds, and fiery, dragons flying across the firmament..”  Wow! Interesting, and this is not the only account in  this chronicle, there is another story of a dragon that was attacking a sheep flock (for the whole Chronicle click here)! Although the word dinosaur is not in the chronicle, take in consideration that the word dinosaur did not exist till the 1800s, but don’t you think that a dragon resembles a dinosaur and the word could be used to describe a large lizard like beast!

9. Cave Painting that look too much like Dinosaurs!

    In a thousand years from now, when archaeologists find our encyclopedias and see pictures of grizzly bears, raccoons and elephants. They may read that they were animals that were commonly seen and even kept in captivity such as in zoos. It would be safe for them to assume that we lived along side of them. Did you know that the first dinosaur fossil was discovered in 1822, and he word was coined in 1841 by Richard Owen? How is it possible paintings resembling a little too much like dinosaurs be found before that date!

     In Cambodia there is a carving that truly resembles a stegosaurus like creature. Even though the head is large, it resembles no living animal we have today and it has Stegosaurus like plates on its back. To me a more convincing example, is an Apatosaurus-like creature that was drawn in a cave in Southeastern Utah! These and more could possibly prove people saw dinosaurs and drew them, to record their encounters.

8.  Marco Polo and His Dragons

     I am not talking about the pool game, but maybe if you played Marco Polo in Loch Ness it could be added to this list. Marco Polo, an Italian merchant,  traveled to China trading silk. Would it be safe to suppose a man that traveled around the whole world(for that time), would have seen many creatures! Marco Polo is  quite a reliable source, as a businessman and a traveler you would not think he would fabricate stories of what he saw! He describes serpents with legs and with jaws big enough to swallow a man. This animal lives in a cave and at night comes out to feed, devouring anything it sees, it also explains the way they hunted this dragon and even how they cooked and ate it.

7.  Native Americans and the Large Lizards.

     We have all heard the story of the Thunderbird and the Phoenix. These tales of flying dragons could be more than just a legend, and even a legend many times is based on fact. In fact cave paintings in Utah, seems to depict a large sauropod beast. Now, in Peru stones were found known as the Ica Stones. These have etched on them a landscape that looks more like it is from a Jurassic Park gift shop, than an ancient South American Indian decoration. These stones depict creatures that look very similar to a sauropod, triceratops and even a T-rex. Could the indigenous people of the Americas, have been the first human beings to establish a Jurassic Park?

6.  Warriors and Dragons.

     There have been many powerful leaders throughout history that have fought against war elephants, huge powerful armies and… dinosaurs? Alexander the Great a great military leader that expanded the Hellinistic empire all the way to India, was said to have seen a dragon that hissed in a cave. Also the reports stated that the dragon was even worshipped, could this have been a relic dinosaur! Or a prequel to the Anaconda Movie! Some warriors were not so lucky, it was said Beowulf fought a flying dragon, and later on died of the wounds at the age of 88. He never enjoyed retirement!

5. Thunderbirds and Cowboys

     In the old Western movies, we see a lot of things such as cowboys, outlaws, bandidos, cattle rustlers but could there have been pterodactyls! Many photographs have been found with pterodactyl-looking creatures, although I do admit many are most likely fake. The fact of the matter is whether or not some are forgeries, it doesn’t disprove all of them. Articles and sightings, by many people have been recorded. In 1891, many reputable citizens claimed they saw  thunderbirds, and allegedly some had been shot down. Up until the last few decades sightings of pterodactyl-like animals have not ceased. In fact according to a ptesaurus watch blog there have been hundreds of sightings of these creatures up until recent times.

4. The Bible and Dinosaurs

     The word dinosaur is not found in the Bible. Then again though as discussed earlier, the word dinosaur was not coined till 1800 years after the Bible was finished, the question is  could we find proof of Dinosaurs in the Bible. Besides finding the word dragon which is mentioned in the Bible many times, there is a very interesting passage in Job.

   “¹⁵ “Look at Behemoth,   which I made along with you    and which feeds on grass like an ox.¹⁶ What strength it has in its loins,
    what power in the muscles of its belly!¹⁷ Its tail sways like a cedar;
    the sinews of its thighs are close-knit.¹⁸ Its bones are tubes of bronze,
    its limbs like rods of iron.¹⁹ It ranks first among the works of God,
    yet its Maker can approach it with his sword.²⁰ The hills bring it their produce,
    and all the wild animals play nearby ²¹ Under the lotus plants it lies,
    hidden among the reeds in the marsh ²² The lotuses conceal it in their shadow; the poplars by the stream surround it ²³ A raging river does not alarm it;   it is secure, though the Jordan should surge against its mouth ²⁴ Can anyone capture it by the eyes or trap it and pierce its nose?”

Skeptics claim, it speaks of an elephant or hippopatumus, but if you read it again, you notice it says that the Behemoth  has a long tail (which hippos and elephants don’t).

3. Sauropods on Islands

     If dinosaurs were to exist today we would expect them to live in a remote area, most likely deep in the jungle. Believe or not , there are still dinosaur sightings today in our modern computer and satellite world. In Papau New Guinea, sightings of theropods are quite common there and there was even an expedition to explore the area. The natives there have sighted long necked beasts, which spend much time in the water! As recently as 1999 and 2007, there have been sightings.

2.  Nessie Legend or Fact

     We have all heard the stories of the Loch Ness Monster, a plesiosaur-like creature tormenting a lake in Scotland. Is this based on fact or people’s wild imagination and forgeries. The truth is whether people like it or not, Nessie has been spotted by the natives there for hundreds of years. In 565 Saint Columba was said to have confronted the great beast. For hundreds of years sightings have been reported, and although some sonar readings have been negative, there have been a few that had turned up positive. There have been many pictures and films alledgedly depicting the great picture, many have turned up fake some are up for debate. Interestingly though, up until very recently sightings have been reported by many people. If all these sightings, are fake then there are many people lying or they are delusional. Nevertheless, I believe there is substantive proof that a strange creature does lurk in Loch Ness.

1.. Mokele Mbembe the Terror of the Congo.

     Pigmies in Africa who have never studied fossils or paleontology, seem to recognize a creature they should not be able to know about the Mokele Mbembe. A sauropod-like animal who is said to inhabit water and have poisonous meat, has long been the source of Western curiosity and pigmy terror. With the extensive gathering of data and eyewitness testimony, it is hard not to believe in this highly documented creature. The natives who have nothing to gain, have identified drawings of long necked dinosaurs as the Mokele Mbembe. Strange footprints have been spotted, accurate testimonies and even alledged photographs. The evidence for this animal gathered from expeditions is shocking. In an area the size of Florida,  with 80 percent unexplored territory, it does not seem unlikely relics from the past may still lurk.

Wether these stories srea based on facts or legend. The stories exist, and that in itself is very intriguing, due to the fact that many stories whether legend, have more truth than myth. Let’s keep on watching, and exploring the unexplored. We may be surprised how many more mysteries this Earth still holds in the deepest pockets of the jungle.

      

Ogopogo- North American Loch Ness

God created the great sea monsters and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarmed after their kind, and every winged bird after its kind; and God saw that it was good. Genesis 1:21

     The Loch Ness monster has long been sighted and documented in Loch Ness. Even in the Middle Ages this creature was sighted up until recent times there have been many sightings tough many being hoaxes. In fact expeditions have been held to try to find this elusive creature that is or was most likely a plesiosaur and many were quite unsuccessful coming back with little to no evidence. Unless this creature has a secret tunnel into the ocean it is most likely extinct.

     His lesser known cousin may still lurk in the bottom of a lake but on the other side of the Atlantic! The Ogopogo is lesser known but still as interesting and may still be living counterpart of Old Nessie. It was first sighted by the First Nations people in Canada. This cryptid is said to inhabit the Okanagan Lake in British Columbia. Karl Shuker a British cryptozoologist belives the Ogopogo to be a primitive serpentine whale such as the Basilosaurus. Many of the sightings could be logs or other well known species of native wildlife such as otters. I believe there is substantial evidence to give credibility to this beast.
     
    In 1926 thirty cars claimed to have seen this animal. Thirty cars that seems to rule out the idea of a lie or hallucinations, which most likely means there was something out there the questions is what. There have been many sightings and even photographs of this creature but none were completely clear to tell if it was a sea monster. A website tough by the name of http://www.ogopogoquest.com/  claims to have photographs of the beast but have not released yet. Another interesting story is of a man by the name of Michael Zaiser who claims to posses a clear image of the Ogopogo and his proof is that he saw and was sure the creature was not human made and also it was in 1996 where digitally altering images was harder.     Until this creature is found and ultimately proven to the scientific community it will remain a cryptid, much like the okapi tough maybe someday in the near future the Ogopogo will become unhidden and known to the scientific community.

Cryptozoology is a Real Science

     Behold, Behemoth, which I made as I made you; he eats grass like an ox. Behold, his strength in his loins, and his power in the muscles of his belly. He makes his tail stiff like a cedar; the sinews of his thighs are knit together. His bones are tubes of bronze, his limbs like bars of iron. “He is the first of the works of God; let him who made him bring near his sword!

Cryptozoology the study of hidden animals. Is considered by many a non-science, while in many cases this claim could be justified. I believe that in general cryptozoology is and should be considered a branch of science. Cryptozoology has helped discover species who have been thought  not to exist but actually did!

Okapi= The okapi when first discovered was rejected by mainstream science even though various hides were obtained . Finally in 1901 this species was recognized after a skin and a skull were acquired.
The okapi is still a very mysterious  animal and remains an icon for cryptzoologists.

      The okapi is not the only species though. I will explore and discuss these other animals in later posts on this blog. In the Bible in such as in the verse above it is as seems a sauropod or maybe a stegosaurus is described. That is very interesting.

     In conclusion although cryptozoology is not considered by many part of mainstream science. It is still a viable and important part of biology.

Purpose of this Blog
